Stafflex and fairandfunky promote the environment, recycling and Fairtrade in local schools

For the past few years fairandfunky have worked closely with local recruitment agency Stafflex to bring sustainable initiatives to schools and community events across Kirklees. We’re delighted to have strengthened our partnership with new and exciting plans for 2020.

As an avid reader of our blogs you will know that we are based in Huddersfield and deliver a range of educational workshop programmes around recycling, the environment and fair trade to schools in the local area (and beyond!). Stafflex are a leading recruiter supplying quality staff to the education, office and industrial sectors across West Yorkshire.

Last year, we launched the highly successful smoothie bike initiative which saw the custom built stationary bicycle fitted with a special blender that can produce delicious smoothie drinks, feature at numerous primary and secondary school workshops across Kirklees and Calderdale.

This year we will continue to build on last year’s success with plans including more smoothie bike appearances at workshops and events as well as ramped up social media activity with regular blogs and e-newsletters. The smoothie bike will be used at a number of primary and secondary school conferences throughout 2020 in locations such as Honley High School, Holmfirth High School and Halifax Minster.

The aim of the partnership is to promote sustainable lifestyles both in terms of the environment, food provenance, saving energy and exercise, in a fun and engaging way. The bike has also been used at a variety of local events such as Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival and the Examiner Schools Awards.

Stafflex are a fantastic example of a local employer that is both responsible and active within their community and we’re absolutely delighted to continue to work with them throughout 2020. As a community interest company, we are committed to empowering and educating young people in West Yorkshire on issues including healthy living, recycling, waste and Fairtrade. All of our profits are reinvested into the company to deliver free workshops to community groups and so the support of local businesses really is invaluable to us.

Rosie Stahelin, Education manager at Stafflex said: “Our relationship with fairandfunky has gone from strength to strength over the last few years. As a local employer, we feel a responsibility to support these kinds of initiatives in educating young people and the workshops provide a fun, interactive and hands on experience for the children around key issues which will shape tomorrow’s world.
