Smoothie bike blends up the perfect partnership!

Pedal power has arrived! With thanks to funding from Holme Valley Parish Council we have a new and unique bike as a tool to teach children across the Holme Valley and beyond all about recycling, food miles, Fairtrade, waste, healthy lifestyles and energy – the fairandfunky smoothie bike ticks all the boxes, not to mention generating power through the movement of the bike to make smoothies in a blender fixed to the front.

This is the second smoothie bike in the fairandfunky collection, our first smoothie bike has made over 4000 smoothies in the past year alone… we have double the pedal power, double the reach! The smoothie bike is a brilliant resource to demonstrate how everyone is connected through the things we do, the food we eat and the actions we take, and how our consumer choices can impact people and planet. Empowering people to take little steps to change the world as the bike enables us to start important conversations on key global issues.

We are extremely grateful for the support of Holme Valley Parish Council. With their funding for our new smoothie bike, we will be able to make learning about core sustainability issues come to life in classrooms and with community groups throughout the Holme Valley and even further afield!

Not only will schools across the area be able to have the smoothie bike in their classrooms, but community organisations and event organisers will have the opportunity to book the bike themselves, meaning people of all ages and backgrounds will be able to enjoy the use of the smoothie bike. This innovative initiative will see people using pedal-power to not only whip up their own smoothies, but at the end of the blend, cyclists will also have learnt more about the impacts their actions have on people and planet, and the little steps they can take to change the world.

“The Parish Council are pleased to support fairandfunky’s application, since their keenness to engage with young people on important subjects like active travel and the climate emergency is shared by the Council.” Deputy Clerk, Holme Valley Parish Council.
