The Co-op Local Community Fund has supported over 30,000 local community projects across the UK since its launch in 2016, giving opportunity for greater capacity of charities and organisations, who play a vital role in the wellbeing of communities. The premise of the fund is very simple – when Co-operative members buy selected Co-op branded products and services and use their blue Co-op membership card at the checkout, 1p from every pound spent goes to support local causes. As you can imagine, the last few years have been really challenging for small organisations such as ours. The pandemic has drastically affected our work with young people, so we are extremely grateful to have this partnership with our local Co-op. We’re urging everyone we know to choose fairandfunky as their cause (and you can here: https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/82027) so we can deliver our climate action project and work with more young people in the Holme Valley and surrounding areas. We will focus on creating opportunities for young people to be heard and make a difference, matching one of The Co-op’s core themes for the funding. We will engage and empower participants with the knowledge that they can have a positive impact on people and planet, by establishing a festival with green activities aimed at young people.
