Fairtrade Fortnight with fairandfunky

At fairandfunky we empower people to take their own little steps to change the world. We run creative arts workshops in schools*, and in the community, that encourage people to think about the consequences of their daily actions and the impact they have on people and planet. We showcase how our small changes of behaviour can have a positive difference to local and global communities – and choosing Fairtrade is a brilliant example of this.

This Fairtrade Fortnight the campaign from The Fairtrade Foundation is to protect the future of our favourite foods. Over on social media we are sharing our favourite Fairtrade products from our favourite local independent places – hoping that it may prompt someone else (YOU!) to choose Fairtrade and make a difference. It is particularly important to support farmers across the world as they face the reality of the climate crisis. Extreme weather patterns negatively affect their ability to grow crops, and this, alongside the cost of living crisis, is having a devastating impact. It is essential that we raise the profile of Fairtrade to protect farming for the future. Farmers who are members of Fairtrade co-operatives are able to access training to develop labour efficient farming methods, to progress agroforestry and women leadership programmes. Fairtrade gives greater economic resilience to farmers through the Fairtrade premium and low (or no) interest loans. Buying Fairtrade is a little step to change the world.

Fairtrade connects consumers to the people who grow and make our products. It enables us to shop small on our own doorstep and make a big difference. When we choose Fairtrade we are taking a stand with farmers for a fairer income so they can protect the future of our foods. We get involved with the Fairtrade Fortnight campaign to spread the word, to make noise, to take action for farmers. And you can too, in 3 easy ways:

ONE: Choose Fairtrade – hunt out Fairtrade products and buy them! And like us, share your Fairtrade finds on social media!

TWO: Spread the word – Share this blog! Head over to the Fairtrade Foundation website and share their brilliant videos and producer stories.

THREE: Sign the community declaration of solidarity for farmers: https://action.fairtrade.org.uk/page/114003/petition/1

*If you’d like to book a Fairtrade workshop for your school please email helen@fairandfunky.com. Our innovative creative workshops are a great way to introduce Fairtrade to early years and KS1 or a way of deepening knowledge and understanding with KS2. In each workshop students discover the importance of Fairtrade to farmers around the world and create individual artworks from recycled materials to carry the Fairtrade message out of the classroom. Please click here to see the full range of Fairtrade SCRAPtastic workshops.
