Don’t Throw It Away, Make Something! SCRAPtastic after school club!

All fairandfunky workshops encourage participants to look at the world around them and empower people of all ages with the knowledge that their actions can have a positive impact on the world around them; both locally and globally.  And thanks to funding from the Longley Farm Fund  via the One Community Foundation we started the Autumn term with a brilliant inter-generational SCRAPtastic after school club at Kirkroyds Infant School in the heart of the Holme Valley.

SCRAPtastic after school club engaged 12 families with creative learning and empowered participants to take their own little steps to change the world. All the crafts demonstrated how household rubbish can be used to make works of art and reduced the need to buy expensive craft kits. Families were able to learn and craft together, with grandparents crafting alongside their Grandchildren sharing ideas, best practice and recycling knowledge!

“I enjoyed spending time together with my son in SCRAPtastic, fab sessions that gave us lots of ideas and also helped my child to understand about re-use and recycle.” Family feedback

SCRAPtastic encourages people to think about where our rubbish goes, and what we do with it, and in starting those conversations we’re changing behaviours and starting to make a difference to our local and global environments. When you throw something away – stop, and think – can this be recycled? Can this be reused? When you buy something new – is it recycled? Am I living sustainably? Am I taking little steps to change the world?

“I would definitely recommend SCRAPtastic, it was a good opportunity to do something together and we’ll re-use more at home now instead of putting things in the bin!” Family feedback

Many things we throw away can actually be re-used and made into something new: “Don’t throw it away…… make something!” Each week in SCRAPtastic families created wonderful work of art to take home and share the message to RE-think, RE-duce, RE-use and RE-cycle.

“It was great fun to spend quality time with my Grandson – it has helped to strengthen our relationship.” Family Feedback
