fairandfunky Go Further in Fairtrade Fortnight

This is the first Fairtrade Fortnight for fairandfunky so we’re trying a bit of everything and hoping some of it works! There is so much going on (too much for a tweet!) that we decided to put it all in a blog; that way, you can share our Fairtrade Fortnight journey with us and maybe even join us along the way.

Day 1: We start locally with a fairandfunky takeover of the Holmfirth Tourist Information Office window. We’ll be selling some of our products there, as well as displaying all our event information. Monday is fairandfunky after school club day so we’ll be bringing Fairtrade into our recycling workshops to make “Super Hero Masks” from Fairtrade packaging.

Day 2: We head to Leeds to take part in Leeds University’s biggest Fairtrade Fair ever, with a stall of fairandfunky goodies. In the evening we are helping Wooldale Guides with their Science Badge and cooking healthy sweets using Fairtrade ingredients, as well as, sharing information as to where food comes from.

Day 3: Is an early start in Keighley as we join Zaytoun CIC on their producer tour of the UK. We are very excited about this as aswell as meeting the Zaytoun team we are having a stall.

Day 4: Takes us to Penistone for our fairandfunky pop up shop at the Community centre; before heading back to Holme for our regular fairandfunky after school club, where more youngsters will be turned into Fairtrade super heros and change the world!

Day 5: Is our first workshop at the co-op pioneer in the centre of Holmfirth. In the morning we’ll be joined by the reception class from Holmfirth Junior & Infant School. With them we’ll be making crowns fit for a Fairtrade King or Queen, from recycled packaging. In the afternoon we start on our GIANT Fairtrade Farmer!

Day 6: Time for a fairandfunky recycling workshop at Holmfirth Methodist Church. This time it is a MONSTER FAIRTRADE workshop. Bring along your Fairtrade packaging and get crafting! Who can make the biggest Fairtrade monster?

Day 7: And we’re back at the Methodist Church running a workshop at their ‘young peoples’ circuit event. Combining Fairtrade and recycling (again! It’s such a great combination!) we’ll be making scrap book journals for recording steps for Fairtrade.

Day 8: After School Club as usual…with a Fairtrade theme….and then on to Holmfirth Guides to run our workshop “Time for Fairtrade”. We’ll play games, lead discussions and create clocks. All demonstrating that it is time, for Fairtrade.

Day 9: A day of rest (unless someone books us!)

Day 10: Really pleased to have been invited to lead a Fairtrade assembly with Wooldale Junior School. Think we will share the story of chocolate with them, what do you think?

Day 11: We’re popping up in Penistone again, as well as taking the Kings and Queens of Fairtrade to Avid Farm Shop for our monthly fairandfunky toddler craft club. And then heading back to Holme for another fairandfunky after school club

Day 12: Back at the co-op pioneer in Holmfirth, this time with Upperthong Junior School in the morning and open to the public in the afternoon. Will we get the GIANT Fairtrade Farmer finished in time? We need YOU to help! Come along and bring your empty Fairtrade packaging

Day 13: The BIG event!! fairandfunky FAIRTRADE family funday!!! A FREE event in Holmfirth Market Hall for everyone. There are: free drop in workshops all day from fairandfunky, and Holme Baked; Fairtrade refreshments served by the local Oxfam group; stalls from fairandfunky, Holme Valley Fairtrade Support Group and Not Just A, live music, Two Valleys Radio and more! Do come and join us.

Day 14: Read through our blogs! As throughout Fairtrade Fortnight we have 14 people sharing their stories as how they Go Further for Fairtrade and Change The World.
